Modern Warfare 2 Controversy
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 came out a few days ago, and it became the fastest selling game in video game history, I believe. However, there is one level in the game, which can be skipped if given the choice, that sparked some (justifiable or not)controversy on video game violence.
Click here to see the video )

SPOILER ALERT
Keep this in mind that you're not forced to watch this video. I'm including it for debate on whether this is really pushing the envelope on violence in video games or not. While it is just a game, and the people killed in here are just digital polygons, the realism makes this level quite intense. If someone plays the game and actually becomes inspired enough to kill people in an airport, is the video game really to blame?

What are your thoughts?

Good Samaritan
Well, my foot has healed to the point where I can put a sock on without a lot of pain... and I felt confident enough to make a walk outside to the grocery store (since I was running out of necessities like toilet paper). About a quarter of the way back home, a car driven by a stranger slowed to a stop where I was by the street and asked if I could have a ride. I know accepting rides from strangers can be dangerous, but this is a small rural town with minimal crime and I still have crutches to defend himself if I have to. So I accepted and the stranger, Meg, drove me home.

"If you see a ditch, don't jump over it," was my advice to her. She just laughed. I thanked her warmly for the ride, and then drove away once I got out in my driveway.

My faith in humanity has gone up a notch. e_e

Random Thoughts
Due to my own stupidity, I'm using crutches. I have a sprained right ankle (torn ligament), but thankfully no broken bones. If you think you have enough narrow space to jump over a ditch for a shortcut, say 'Fuck it' anyway and go around the damn thing.

Thankfully the insurance is paying for the crutches (I damn hope it will!) among other things. So far they're a pain to use but I'm getting the hang of it.

AND NOW IT'S TIME FOR RANDOM THOUGHTS

1) Because of my injury, I have to stay out of work today. That's a loss of money in my next paycheck. SIGH.

2) The Lylat: Generations RPG is approaching finalization in terms of setting development. It'll be set 30 years after the CEG setting, and when the Venomian military storms Corneria, sparking the Lylat War. Expect the start to occur either in November or December. Maybe for symbolism's stake, I'll debut it on the first weekend of January. This will be the third dramatic setting renovation for the RPG as a whole dating back ten years, and the first in which I have the most control in the initial setting changes.

3) I'm on a Drum & Bass kick lately. x_x Not only am I addicted to Pendulum, but another one has caught my attention: Mistabishi. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aqeAmFjSLB8

4) Thanks to the crutches, my armpits hate me. But I'm trying to make using my arms more as a habit when using them.

5) Ditches are not your best friend.

Denver Broncos... will you please take those retro uniforms and just burn them? All of them? When I first spotted them on TV, I thought my eyes bled.

It's Over
The Rim Country Gazette is finished as a printed press for the Payson and surrounding communities. I'm sad about this because I consider the Gazette as an important Watchdog paper and it's also a paper that encourages the peoples' voices be heard. I even wanted to write a column for the paper as a 'counter' against Jinx Pyle, a notorious cowboy political writer for the rival paper, the Payson Roundup (because he misleads people with lies, spreading fear and hatred, etc etc). It was a free subscription paper, held up only by donations until finally they ran out of money. The paper is now just an online blog, but considering how rural this town is, how many people here can access their digital information?

So now the only local paper is the Payson Roundup, which isn't even controlled locally (their parent company is in Kansas or Kentucky, not sure), and I'm extremely wary about their shoddy journalism and bias in their reporting. They're lap dogs for controlling interests, especially in our town government, and their own publisher is in the same town board as the mayor, so can I really trust the Roundup to make an objective view on local policies?

So without the Gazette, who will be the watchdog? The Roundup doesn't care, and the town council doesn't either! The people passed two ironclad ethics policies in 2007 and the council just swept them under the rug. There was supposed to be ethics training for all the members of town government. No training took place. As long as the newspaper and the mayor are in the same bed, we can just kiss the prospect of the paper criticizing Payson's government goodbye! So the special interests will continue to run our government, the old guard families, the corrupt real estate communities, business people with a stake in yes or no votes within the council, and even our political rally group that makes the most noise, the Payson Sons and Daughters of Liberty (the ones that I confronted in a previous LJ post recently), are a bunch of ill-informed politically-bias buffoons!

Fuck this town. I can't wait to find a job elsewhere so that I can finally bail out of here.

In pro wrestling, a 'botch' is a mistake or something not planned in a match, sketch, whatever. Maffew, the maker of all these Botchamania videos on YouTube (often taken down by YouTube due to copyright stuff), has just released Botchamania 100 (which was taken down, and then brought back up in Dailymotion). The video here is a 'Best of Botchamania' stuff voted by many of the fans. On the 0:49 to 0:52 mark, Shelton Benjamin runs down the ramp, goes over the steps and then... disappears. For the life of me, I cannot understand what he was thinking.

JEFF HARDY. COMING SOON TO A ZOMBIE (OR DRUG-INDUCED) MOVIE NEAR YOU.

1) Been a while since I've done these kind of LJ posts. Yes, I'm wasting time on my day off.

2) I've begun writing a Star Fox fanfic after a hiatus spanning eight years.

3) I need to find a cheap replacement for my internal CD-Rom drive. Any suggestions? I've checked out tigerdirect and newegg, but I'm wondering if there are other sites that I haven't known about yet.

4) Saffire is actually a snowshoe cat. http://animal.discovery.com/breedselector/catprofile.do?id=4050

5) Things are too slow here in Payson. Either I need to move out or find a second job.

6) Priorities to achieve before the end of 2009: A) Buy a used car, B) Upgrade/Repair Computer so that I can sell it without being an asshole to the customer, C) Buy a better computer, D) Find a job outside of Payson (or even better, out of freaking Arizona)

Due to a storm last weekend, the fuses for the telephone line blew out, causing terrible background noise on the telephone and also dramatically limiting the speed of DSL (and it got knocked out completely yesterday). Thankfully the technician came and everything got fixed. :P

And now... a third playlist of crap I like... under the cut.

Something To Chew On For Once
Yesterday as I was walking with my bike (I was already tired and just getting to the end of a uphill trip home) for a short breather, I heard numerous cars sounding out their horns up along the road. About a dozen protesters carrying American flags and signs were standing and waving at the cars driving by, all of them from middle-aged to elderly. I could just simply make a simple detour to avoid them but this time I decided to simply walk past them, despite being fully aware what they would be protesting about.

No to Socialism!
Illegal Immigration is a Weapon of Mass Destruction
No Free Healthcare to Illegals!
I'm Not Your ATM
Obama You Lie!

As I waited on the street corner for the walking signal to turn on, a protester stood right beside me, holding the No Free Healthcare to Illegals! sign. He was a fairly old man, wearing a mock camouflage yellow/green set of pants. I have a feeling he was a member of the Sons and Daughters of Liberty organization that has constantly made local headlines with their protests. Against my desire to simply ignore everything, I finally looked at him and pointed at the sign. All Joe Wilson did was cry out 'YOU LIE!" at President Obama during that speech recently and suddenly there's attention on Section 246 of the bill.

"Um, excuse me sir but the health care bill does state that illegal immigrants wouldn't be getting it free."

The man looked back at me and shook his head. "It needs to explicitly state that!"

"Yes it does... section 246. Have you read it?"

"It needs to explicitly state that!"

By that point, the conversation was over. It was obvious that he refused to listen to me, and any more attempt to knock sense into this man to stop believing propaganda and simply read the original source to make up his own opinion on the truth would just be a waste of time and energy. By the way, the title for Section 246 is: NO FEDERAL PAYMENT FOR UNDOCUMENTED ALIENS. Um... yeah, it does explicit state it, old man. Alas, the permission for me to walk across the street turned on so I simply smiled back at him silently and moved on, shaking my head.

I might just bring along slips of Post-It notes so that if I come across these people again, I'll take out a marker, write down 'WWW.FACTCHECK.ORG' and hand it to them as neutral gifts. Granted though, the Republicans do have a point about this matter because there's no definite way of enforcing this kind of thing. But... let's get real here. If an illegal immigrant falsely apply for federal health benefits when they shouldn't be getting it, all Hell will rain down on that person once found out and deportation would be um... very likely. Illegal immigrants can purchase private insurance though. But if Congress can mend out a way to enforce this section once it becomes law, that'll be good news for once.

This is what I face daily in Payson, ladies and gentlemen. The lies, hate, whining and then doing nothing, etc ad neusuem. People find the time to write to the Rim Country Gazette and Payson Roundup (the two major local papers, both with distinct philosophies) to complain that President Obama is a socialist commie pig that will rationalize health care and set up death panels, but cannot find the time to simply read the necessary sections of the 1,000-page long Health Reform Bill and make their own opinions about them rather than parroting other hate mongers. They find the time to demonize a President that hasn't even gone through his first year of presidency and chose to disregard that part about the previous eight years of a President bending the Constitution, shooting trillions of dollars down the drain fighting two war fronts, etc etc.

Yes we're in a bad situation, no amount of fantasy can sugarcoat that. Many people are jobless, declaring bankruptcy, and losing their homes. I'm living in my parents house with an income of less than $700 a month part-time and the classifieds for both local papers rarely show anything hiring that I could qualify for (and when there are, the companies don't reply back to my applications). I'm fully aware on just how much crap we as Americans are going through. But... you know, I'm trying my best with what I have. I still have faith that many of us are, and it's just the whiners-and-do-nothings that get all the unnecessary attention.

What's the hell is my point here... um... well, instead of screaming and pointing fingers (those protesters have every right to protest of course... but I'm afraid they're protesting blindly), just simply look at the original sources of the matter. Take out the media, the people with the bullhorns, the gossip, the rumors, all that. Just look at the truth as it is and make your own stand with that as your foundation. I'm not perfect and have fucked up on this matter many times... but I do seriously want to have this as one of my guiding principles in terms of opinion-making.

There's a lot more on what I can say here but... I need to go to work.

Hard Drugs And Harder Pharmacists

Pharmacy | Mount Holly, NJ, USA

(A teen approaches my cash register very slowly.)

Me: “Can I help you?”

Customer: “Gimme all the f***ing medicine!”

(Teen pulls out an airsoft pistol with orange tip still glued to the front.)

Me: “The pharmacy is in the back of the store.”

Customer: “Oh…okay.”

(He holsters the air-soft gun in his belt and darts down the aisles to the back of the store. My manager comes out of the back room because of the commotion.)

Manager: “Who was that?”

Me: “Some kid looking for drugs. He went back to the pharmacy.”

Manager: “Why didn’t you call the police?”

(The teen runs screaming from the back of the store out of the front door followed closely by the pharmacy technician, a 35 year old boxer built like a fridge.)

Me: “Doug started working today.”

XD
Isn't it sad that I can post chapters of my current story on Furaffinity and get maybe less than 20 views on it (and just one comment total) over the course of two months... and then I post up a photograph of a lion and get 32 views, four comments, and one favorite on it by people not even on my watch list... in the first ten minutes upon posting?

Oy. LOL
